“AMAZING SCANDALOUS GRACE”

“AMAZING SCANDALOUS GRACE”

SERMON OUTLINE — “FORGIVEN MUCH, LOVING MUCH”
OPENING TEXT — LUKE 7:36–50 (Summary)

Jesus is dining at Simon the Pharisee’s house. A sinful woman enters, weeping, washing His feet with her tears, wiping them with her hair, kissing them, and anointing them. Simon judges her. Jesus defends her. Jesus forgives her. Jesus sends her out in peace.

INTRODUCTION — “WHEN WORSHIP BECOMES A RESPONSE TO GRACE”

Joysongs weekend has been about encounter — worship, leadership, creativity, technology, and the presence of God. But all of it points to one thing: Jesus still saves people when they encounter Him.

The woman didn’t come with a song, a title, or a reputation. She came with tears, brokenness, and gratitude.

Jesus said: (Luke 7:47) “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much.”

– This is the heart of salvation.

– This is the heart of worship.

– This is the heart of baptism.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WOMAN AND THE PHARISEE

Two people sat with the same Savior — but responded completely differently.

• The Pharisee saw Jesus as a guest to evaluate.

• The woman saw Jesus as a Savior to worship.

• The Pharisee offered no water, no kiss, no oil.

• The woman offered tears, kisses, and costly perfume.

• The Pharisee judged her sin.

• The woman surrendered her sin.

• The Pharisee left unchanged.

• The woman left forgiven.

Same Jesus. Same room. Two responses. – Only one received grace.

This is the question for every heart today: “Who will I be in this story?”

MAIN POINT 1 — AN ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS BREAKS THROUGH EVERY BARRIER

Luke 7:37 “A woman of the city… learned He was reclining at the table… and brought an alabaster flask.”

– She wasn’t invited.

– She wasn’t welcomed.

– She wasn’t respected.

But she came anyway — because desperation is stronger than disqualification.

Barriers she broke:

• Social shame • Religious judgment • Personal guilt • Fear of rejection

Because when Jesus is in the room, nothing else matters.

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES
(Jeremiah 29:13) “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”
(Hebrews 4:16) “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence…”
(John 6:37) “Whoever comes to Me I will never cast out.”
APPLICATION:

Some of you walked in today feeling unworthy, unseen, or too far gone. –

 • Jesus is not intimidated by your past. He invites you to come close — just as you are.
 • Baptism is your step of boldness — your declaration that nothing will keep you from Jesus anymore.
MAIN POINT 2 — TRUE WORSHIP FLOWS FROM A FORGIVEN HEART

(Luke 7:38) “She stood behind Him weeping… wiping His feet… kissing His feet… anointing them.”

Her worship was not polished, professional, or structured. It was overflow. It was gratitude. It was love responding to mercy.

This is why worship matters. This is why JoySongs exists. Worship is not performance — it’s response.

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES:

(Psalm 103:2–3) “Bless the Lord… who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases.”

(Psalm 51:17) “A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”

(Romans 12:1) “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice… this is your spiritual worship.”

APPLICATION

When you remember what Jesus saved you from, worship becomes natural.

When you remember how much He forgave, you don’t hold back. Your worship becomes your testimony — and your baptism becomes your declaration.

MAIN POINT 3 — FORGIVENESS PRODUCES TRANSFORMATION, AND TRANSFORMATION PRODUCES TESTIMONY

(Luke 7:48–50) “Your sins are forgiven… Your faith has saved you… Go in peace.” Jesus didn’t just forgive her.

He restored her identity. He silenced her accusers. He gave her a future. He sent her out with peace.

Forgiveness is not the end — it’s the beginning. It leads to transformation. And transformation leads to testimony.

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES:

(2 Corinthians 5:17) “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away…

” (Ezekiel 36:26) “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.”

(Revelation 12:11) “They overcame… by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

APPLICATION:

Baptism is not a ritual — it’s a public testimony: “I met Jesus. He forgave me. He changed me. And now I follow Him.” Today is someone’s “Go in peace” moment.
CONCLUSION — “WHO WILL YOU BE IN THIS STORY?”

Two people sat with Jesus:

• Simon, who judged

• The woman, who worshiped

Only one left forgiven. Only one left changed. Only one left in peace.

Jesus is still saying today: “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.” ALTAR CALL / BAPTISM CALL
