A message from Psalm 17
In a world where companies spend billions of dollars every year building brand awareness, Christians carry something infinitely more valuable—the opportunity to represent Jesus Christ to a world searching for hope, truth, purpose, and the Good News of salvation. Every believer has an active part in advancing the Kingdom of God and sharing the most important message ever given.
The question is not whether people are watching us. The question is: What are they seeing?
As followers of Jesus, we are called to be ambassadors of Christ, carrying His love, truth, and grace into every sphere of life. Through our words, actions, and attitudes, we become living representatives of the Savior of this world.
Created to Reflect His Image
From the very beginning, humanity was created to bear God's likeness.
When God declared, "Let Us make man in Our image," He established humanity's original purpose—to reflect His character, His love, His holiness, and His goodness into the world. Sin distorted that image, but through Jesus Christ, God made a way for restoration. Christ took on our likeness so that we could once again bear His.
The story of Jesus is ultimately the story of God's plan to restore humanity to its true identity.
Through Christ, we are no longer defined by our failures but by our relationship with Him. As we grow in Him, we begin to reflect God's endless creativity and reveal His nature to a world longing for answers.
Representing Jesus is not simply about attending church or identifying as a Christian. It is about becoming a visible reflection of His character everywhere we go.

1. Regularly Report for Duty in God's Presence
David begins Psalm 17 by bringing his case before the Lord and seeking approval from God's presence rather than from people.
Just as soldiers report for inspection, believers must regularly appear before God for examination.
God's presence provides accountability, readiness, and direction for the day's mission.
Before we can represent Christ publicly, we must spend time with Him privately. We cannot carry His presence if we rarely enter it.
Moses understood this when he declared:
"If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here."
The distinguishing mark of God's people has never been talent, intelligence, influence, or ability. It has always been His presence.
It is in God's presence that we receive direction, correction, and purpose. The Spirit of the Living God shapes us into people who radiate purpose and represent the Kingdom of Heaven wherever we go.
2. Submit to God's Testing and Refining
Psalm 17 reveals David's willingness to be examined by God.
Rather than avoiding testing, mature believers invite it.
David echoed this attitude when he prayed:
"Search me, O God, and know my heart."
God's testing isn't designed to destroy us. It is designed to reveal what still needs to be surrendered.
The Lord often exposes unforgiveness, jealousy, pride, offense, and hidden attitudes that quietly distort our witness.
Often, God does His deepest work during tough seasons. Trials reveal what still needs refining and create opportunities for the power of God to be displayed through our lives.
Refining fire is uncomfortable, but it removes impurities so that Jesus can be seen more clearly in us. When God removes what doesn't belong, we experience greater intimacy with Him and greater freedom in our walk.
3. Guard Your Words
One of the clearest ways we represent Jesus is through our speech.
David declared:
"I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress."
Our words can either draw people toward Christ or push them away.
Every conversation becomes an opportunity to reflect Christ. Sometimes the simplest conversation starters can open doors for people to experience the love of Jesus.
Before speaking, we should ask:
Does this reflect Christ?
Does this build up or tear down?
Is this what this person needs to hear right now?
Representing Jesus means speaking truth, but always through the lens of love.
4. Stay Under the Counsel of God's Word
Life constantly shifts. Circumstances change. Emotions fluctuate.
God's Word does not.
David testified that God's Word kept him from destructive paths and established his steps.
When we don't know what to do next, Scripture provides direction.
When life leaves us feeling discouraged, God's Word cleanses our perspective.
When the world changes its standards, God's Word remains settled forever.
Remaining rooted in Scripture helps us discern truth from culture and keeps us aligned with the message of Emmanuel—God with us. His Word continually reminds us of our true identity and keeps us grounded in the Kingdom of God.
A believer who consistently stays in the Word develops a steady footing, even in unstable times.
5. Seek God's Protection for His Purpose
David prayed:
"Keep me as the apple of Your eye."
This beautiful phrase speaks of God's affection and care, but it also carries a deeper purpose. Just as the pupil directs light, believers are called to direct the light of Jesus into the lives of others.
God's protection is not merely for our comfort. It is for His mission.
As representatives of Jesus Christ, we participate in the ministry of reconciliation, helping others discover peace with God and become part of His family.
Sometimes people need gentle encouragement.
Sometimes they need a compassionate conversation.
Sometimes they need bold truth.
Jesus modeled this perfectly. He met people where they were and spoke what they needed to hear. As representatives of Christ, we must learn to do the same.
6. Representing Jesus Beyond Ourselves
Jesus never intended for His followers to keep the Gospel to themselves.
The Great Commission calls believers to become disciples of all nations, carrying the Good News to the ends of the earth.
Whether through local outreach, personal evangelism, or international missions, every believer has an active part in advancing God's kingdom.
From our neighborhoods to places around the world such as Bosnia & Herzegovina, Antigua & Barbuda, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, the British Virgin Islands, the Caribbean Netherlands, and the British Indian Ocean Territory, the mission remains the same: to share the story of Jesus and reveal His love to those who have not yet encountered Him.
The call of Christ reaches every culture, every language, and every nation. We are not spectators. We are part of the movement that Jesus began over two thousand years ago.
7. Watch Your Appetites
Psalm 17 warns about people whose lives are consumed by earthly pursuits.
The danger is not possessing things.
The danger is being possessed by them.
Success, comfort, possessions, and achievement can quietly become substitutes for God's purpose.
As Pastor Vernon shared, it is possible to have money without allowing money to have us.
Everything we possess ultimately belongs to God. We are stewards, not owners.
When we remember that truth, we stop living for temporary treasures and begin investing in eternal ones.
Found in His Likeness
David concludes Psalm 17 with a remarkable statement:
"I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness."
Ultimately, representing Brand Jesus isn't about building our reputation. It's about becoming more like Him.
As we spend time in His presence, submit to His refining, stay rooted in His Word, guard our speech, walk in His purpose, and hold earthly things loosely, something begins to happen.
We start reflecting Christ more clearly.
As we grow in His likeness, we become an extension of His life on earth. Through the Holy Spirit, we reflect the light of Jesus, carry the spirit of our beloved Jesus into everyday life, and help others discover the ultimate fulfillment found only in Him.
The world does not need better religious marketing.
It needs authentic believers whose lives consistently point people to Jesus Christ.
Every day, we represent a name.
May our lives make people curious about the One we follow, faithfully advancing the Kingdom of
Heaven until every nation has heard the story of Jesus.
At Elevated Life Church, our mission is to help people encounter Jesus Christ, grow in their faith, and become disciples who impact their families, communities, and the world for the Kingdom of God.
